We are proud parents of a gorgeous toddler named Ruby and two rescued dogs: Samson, a English Cocker Spaniel, and Clementine, a Labradoodle.
Building a family over the past few years has been the singular most fulfilling experience of our lives.
So much of our family time is shared over home-cooked meals. Gabriel is a self-taught home cook, and always finds an excuse to whip up a delicious feast, usually with roasted vegetables, pasta with homemade sauce, a green salad and fresh seafood. Thomas is known for cooking up a delicious English breakfast and making the most delicious fresh-pressed juices.
When we’re not eating, we are often singing (Thomas has a beautiful singing voice), making up songs (Gabriel has less of a beautiful singing voice), or dancing.
We also love to spend time outdoors, especially in warmer months!
In spring and summer, Thomas and Ruby love to garden and swim in the pool at our weekend home in Connecticut, and Gabriel is often seen running and playing in a park with our daughter and dogs.
When we’re not at home, we enjoy traveling - either to see loved ones around the U.S. or to enjoy new adventures abroad.
Thomas’ thoughts on Gabriel
I first heard Gabriel’s voice on a conference call. In 2016, our workplaces were planning an event together at a work conference and he was one of 4 or 5 on a conference call the week before. I don’t remember the conversation but do remember making note of the smart, enthusiastic and very polite voice and hoping he’d be at the event. Flash-forward to the day before, we are now at the conference, he and I were traveling with our bosses, and there he was beside me — handsome as can be, but so serious, so focused. I didn’t know whether he was even gay, much less what his relationship status was.
Seven years later, after countless trips, thousands of pictures and many treasured memories, I still spend my days and nights wanting to know more, to explore more, and to build more together. Gabriel has proven to be the same smart, serious, focused man I first met, but I’ve also gotten to indulge his downright goofy side too. He brings all of these characteristics to fatherhood, and I’m so excited to continue building our family together.
Gabriel’s thoughts on Thomas
I knew from the moment I met Thomas that he is always up for a new adventure. During the first six months of our relationship, we lived on two separate continents: I was working and living in Europe, and Thomas was living in New York. Despite the very long distance, we were both so eager to get to know each other more that we would meet “half way” every two weeks in different locations: skiing in Switzerland, swimming in the Mediterranean, road tripping in Ireland, walking around Washington, DC, or visiting museums in Venice, Italy.
Our most meaningful adventure, though, has been building a family together. Thomas is an incredible father; he is creative, playful, caring. He is also a fantastic partner, always putting our family first. And parenthood has not stopped our sense of adventure. In 2019, we spent six weeks on a cross-country road trip with our family, and hope to do it again soon with our new member of our family!
Thomas is one of the most loving, generous people I know, and is always there for friends when they need advice, guidance or a shoulder to lean on. Thomas has an incredible eye for design, and helps many of our friends design and move in to their new homes. He loves to get his hands dirty, working tirelessly in the garden in the spring, summer and fall, and is a great instructor in how to pot new plants to curious Ruby and other young children in our lives.
I’m so excited to start this next chapter of our lives together as parents of two amazing children.
Our loved ones
There’s a common saying in the LGBTQ+ community that you sometimes can choose your family. That is, because so many in the community have suffered strained or outright broken relations with their biological families, we can end up rebuilding the support systems that family provides with even closer and long-lasting friendships.
Both of us, however, enjoy the best of both worlds -- very close and supportive families and a family of friends who have come along the ride with us for the entirety of our relationship.
Our daughter is fortunate to have three sets of grandparents — Saba & Safta, Grammy Linda & Grampy Paul, Grammy Cindy & Grampy Tom — all who visit and FaceTime frequently!
Gabriel
Gabriel grew up in a historic New England town to two parents, Gloria and Stuart. Gabriel has two siblings - Daniel and Rachel - who are all close in age. His family loves to get together each year over major Jewish holidays, including Passover and the High Holidays.
Gabriel’s childhood was complete with bike rides with his siblings through town, nine years of sleep-away summer camp, going to Hebrew school, and volunteering in his local community. In school, he took to history, photography and English classes, and was president of his high school’s Model United Nations chapter.
Gabriel’s parents made it a priority for their children to see the world, and his early travel experiences inspired him to study and live abroad during and after college, in Europe, South America and the Middle East.
Thomas
Thomas was born in a small town in Pennsylvania where his family had lived since the 19th century, to two parents, Tom Sr. and Linda.
When Thomas was seven, his parents divorced and both soon remarried. Thomas moved to another small town in Pennsylvania to live with his mom, Linda, stepdad Paul, and his older sister, Julianne.
During his school years, Thomas was a member of several choirs, worked at the local coffee shop, performed in several student productions, served as class president and was selected Valedictorian (the highest grade) for his senior high school class.
Today, Thomas’ entire family celebrates holidays together, complete with six grandkids.
